Bypass the Great Firewall of China

China's Great Firewall (GFW) uses advanced deep packet inspection to detect and block VPN traffic. NexTunnel uses VLESS+Reality — a protocol specifically engineered to be undetectable by GFW's traffic analysis.

How to Set Up VPN Before Entering China

5 steps to bypass the Great Firewall using NexTunnel before and during your trip to China.

  1. 1
    Sign up before travel

Create an account at nextunnel.com before entering China. The website will be blocked once you're there. Download and save your config.

  2. 2
    Download the app

Get the NexTunnel app for your device (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS). Install it on your phone or computer before your trip.

  3. 3
    Save your credentials

Your VPN config is stored locally in the app. Works offline — you don't need to reach our website once configured.

  4. 4
    Once in China, connect

Open the app and tap Connect. VLESS+Reality disguises your traffic as normal HTTPS.

  5. 5
    Browse freely

Bypass GFW automatically. Access blocked websites, social media, messaging apps, and the open internet.

Why NexTunnel works in China

  • VLESS+Reality uses a real domain as a front — GFW sees legitimate TLS 1.3 traffic, not a VPN
  • Hysteria2 over QUIC/UDP bypasses TCP fingerprinting and throttling used by GFW
  • 4 server locations outside China with automatic failover
  • No WebRTC or DNS leaks — full traffic routing
  • Zero-logs policy — no browsing history or DNS queries stored
  • Crypto payments via NowPayments — sign up anonymously

China VPN — Questions answered

Does NexTunnel work in China?

Yes — VLESS+Reality and Shadowsocks-2022 (AEAD ciphers) are the two protocols that consistently survive the GFW in 2026. NexTunnel uses Reality as primary. The website itself may be blocked at the edge from inside China, so register and download the app BEFORE you travel.

Is using a VPN legal in China?

Unauthorized VPN use is restricted under Chinese law and the government periodically cracks down on commercial VPN providers serving Chinese users. Enforcement against individual end-users is rare but not zero. NexTunnel does not log activity. Always review your local situation; we cannot give legal advice.

Which NexTunnel server is best for China?

Helsinki and USA are the two strategic choices. Helsinki gives reasonable latency (~200ms) and the most stable Reality routing through Russia/Mongolia. USA (West Coast) gives faster latency (~120ms) but is more often targeted by GFW. The app auto-fallbacks between both.

Does it bypass China's Great Firewall (GFW)?

Yes. GFW uses active probing (it connects to suspect IPs to check for VPN-like responses) plus ML-based packet-timing fingerprinting. Reality defeats active probing because the probe gets a real third-party domain's TLS response back. Shadowsocks-2022 AEAD ciphers defeat the pre-2022 active-probe attacks that killed Shadowsocks-2020.

What protocols work best in China?

Primary: VLESS+Reality 443/TCP (the only consistently working option for non-IT users in 2026). Backup: Shadowsocks-2022 with AEAD. Extra layer: ShadowTLS (Shadowsocks inside a real TLS handshake). WireGuard and OpenVPN are killed within minutes by GFW and are NOT recommended for China usage.
